Hydration Trend Report 2027: What 3,111 Search Suggestions Say About Electrolyte Powder

In nine languages and across Google, Amazon, Shopee, YouTube and Baidu, the most common thing people add to an electrolyte search is the same two words: sugar free. This report reads 3,111 electrolyte search suggestions, captured on 9 October 2026, to show what hydration buyers actually ask for — and where an own brand can still win.

Quick answer: what is trending in electrolyte powder for 2027?

Electrolyte powder is the leading hydration format worldwide: in 3,111 search suggestions captured on 9 October 2026, ‘powder’ appeared 679 times — more than sticks, tablets, drinks, gummies and jellies combined. ‘Sugar free’ is the most common selling modifier in every language checked, children and sport are the largest named audiences after medical rehydration, and ‘Halal’ appeared only once — the biggest unclaimed position in the category.

Key takeaways

  • Powder wins the format question. 679 powder suggestions against 258 for stick, packet or sachet and 187 for tablets.
  • Sugar free is universal. 179 suggestions — in English, Malay, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Arabic.
  • The US searches at scale, Malaysia is early. ‘Electrolyte drink’ runs 100,000 to 1 million searches a month in the US against 1,000 to 10,000 in Malaysia.
  • Medical rehydration is the largest audience — and the one to avoid. 198 suggestions sit in oral rehydration territory, which is a regulated product, not a drink powder.
  • Halal is almost unclaimed. One suggestion in 3,111. For a Halal manufacturer, that is a gap, not a weakness.

What did we measure?

Search suggestions are what a platform offers as you type — they show what real buyers ask, in their own words, without a survey. On 9 October 2026 we collected suggestions for electrolyte and hydration terms from Google (Malaysia, US, Australia, UK, Singapore and the Philippines in English, plus Malay, Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic), YouTube, Baidu, Amazon (US, Australia, UAE, Singapore and Japan) and Shopee (Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam and Singapore). Search volumes come from Google Keyword Planner. Suggestions prove that people search a phrase; volumes show how many.

Which format do buyers search for?

Powder leads by a wide margin, and single-serve packs are the clear second. Tablets are strong mainly in China, Taiwan, Vietnam and the Arab markets.

Format Suggestions Where it is strongest
Powder 679 Every market
Stick / packet / sachet 258 Amazon US; Vietnam and Indonesia in local words
Tablet / effervescent 187 China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Arabic-speaking markets
Drink mix / ready-to-drink 67+ Malaysia (‘air isotonik’)
Gummy / chews 62 US, Australia
Jelly / ice pop 53 US, Australia, Japan
Drops 43 —
Capsule 20 —

For a new brand this settles the first decision: launch a powder, in sticks or sachets. Formats are covered in our electrolyte & hydration powder manufacturer page.

Who is the buyer?

Audience Suggestions Note
Medical rehydration (ORS) 198 Regulated product class — not where a drink-powder brand should play
Children 104 Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, US, Japan
Sport and running 87 The traditional core
Illness, fever, diarrhoea 63 Strongest in Thailand — again medical territory
Pregnancy and breastfeeding 31 Australia, US, Arabic markets
Keto and fasting 28 Malaysia and YouTube ‘for fasting’
Cramps and POTS 17 US
Seniors 5 Small today

The lesson is in the first and fourth rows. A large share of hydration searches are medical, and an electrolyte drink powder is a food — it must not borrow that language. The open audiences for an own brand are children (with lower sugar), sport, fasting and everyday drinking.

What do buyers want the product to have?

Selling point Suggestions
Sugar free 179
Sodium / salt 75
Caffeine 43
Natural / no additives 30
Vitamins 26
Creatine 20
Coconut water 16
Magnesium 13
Potassium 9
Collagen 4
Halal 1

‘Sugar free’ appears in every language we checked — tanpa gula, ไม่มีน้ำตาล, không đường, 无糖, 무설탕, ゼロカロリー, بدون سكر. Sodium is second, which explains the rise of high-salt sticks. Caffeine and creatine are the ‘hydration plus’ signals, strongest in the US, Australia and Japan.

Flavour preferences are steady across markets: unflavoured and lemon-lime first, then orange, berry and watermelon, with regional favourites — lychee and peach in Malaysia, passion fruit and salted lemon in Vietnam, yuzu in Japan.

How big is the search demand?

Google Keyword Planner ranges, captured 9 October 2026:

Search term US / month Malaysia / month
electrolyte drink 100,000 – 1 million 1,000 – 10,000
electrolyte powder 10,000 – 100,000 100 – 1,000
hydration drink 10,000 – 100,000 100 – 1,000
hydration packets 10,000 – 100,000 —
electrolyte drink mix 10,000 – 100,000 —
coconut water electrolyte drink 10,000 – 100,000 100 – 1,000
hydration powder 1,000 – 10,000 —

The growth story is consistent with the trade press: Spate data via FoodNavigator put the year-on-year rise in TikTok hydration searches at 363.8% (August 2024 to July 2025).

What does each market search in its own language?

  • English: ‘best’, ‘benefits’, ‘vs tablets’, and retailer names; on Amazon, pack counts — 28, 30, 32 sachets, variety pack.
  • Malay: air isotonik, minuman elektrolit tanpa gula, elektrolit air kelapa.
  • Indonesian: isotonik bubuk and minuman elektrolit tanpa gula, alongside medical rehydration terms.
  • Thai: electrolyte powder with convenience-store and sport terms; ผงเกลือแร่ ไม่มีน้ำตาล (sugar-free).
  • Chinese (Malaysia, Singapore): 电解质粉 with 无糖 and pharmacy terms. Note that 补水 mostly means skincare.
  • Japanese: a split between medical rehydration and sports 電解質パウダー with creatine and zero-calorie.
  • Arabic: effervescent, sugar-free, for children and for athletes.

What this means for a brand launching in 2027

  1. Launch a powder in sticks or sachets — the format buyers already search for.
  2. Lead with zero sugar and print the sodium, potassium and magnesium per serving.
  3. Pick one ‘plus’ — creatine, collagen, caffeine, magnesium — rather than a long list.
  4. Stay a food. Keep away from rehydration and illness language.
  5. Use Halal as a position. One suggestion in 3,111 means almost nobody is claiming it.

We turned these findings into five ready-formula catalogues for 2027 — Halal, viral and TikTok, export, retail and pharmacy and innovation — 52 formulas in all, on our electrolyte & hydration powder manufacturer page.

The ORIZI perspective

The most useful number in this report is the smallest: one Halal suggestion in 3,111. Hydration buyers in Muslim markets search in their own language for sugar-free, for children and for fasting, but almost nobody tells them the product is Halal. For a brand made in a JAKIM-certified facility that is the cheapest differentiation available — it is already true, it only has to be said.

Limitations

  • Suggestion counts compare relative strength; they are not search volumes.
  • Requests came from a Malaysian IP address, so results lean towards Malaysia.
  • Some suggestions are noise — in some languages the electrolyte term also returns chemistry, batteries or blood tests; brand counts include false matches.
  • Search behaviour changes quickly; treat these figures as a 9 October 2026 snapshot and refresh before a launch decision.

Frequently asked questions

Is electrolyte powder still growing in 2026?

Yes. Hydration searches on TikTok grew 363.8% year on year to July 2025 (Spate data via FoodNavigator), and in our 9 October 2026 capture powder was the most-suggested electrolyte format in every market.

What do people add to electrolyte searches most often?

‘Sugar free’. It was the most common selling modifier in our capture — 179 of 3,111 suggestions — and appeared in every language checked.

Which electrolyte format should a new brand launch?

A powder in single-serve sticks or sachets. Powder led with 679 suggestions and single-serve packs followed with 258; tablets were strong only in a few markets.

Can an electrolyte powder brand use oral rehydration claims?

No. Oral rehydration solutions are a regulated product class. An electrolyte drink powder is a food and should avoid rehydration, illness and treatment language.

Is Halal important in electrolyte powder?

It is an unclaimed position: only one of 3,111 suggestions mentioned Halal, while Muslim-market buyers search heavily for sugar-free, children and fasting products.
