Private Label Manufacturer in Malaysia: Your Brand on a Proven Formula
Private label is the fastest, lowest-risk way to own a product brand: the formula already works, so you choose it, brand it and sell it. Here is how private label manufacturing works at ORIZI Group, what it costs to start, and when a different route suits you better.
Quick answer
ORIZI Group is a private label manufacturer in Malaysia. Brand owners choose a proven, ready-made formula, put their own brand and packaging on it, and launch without developing a product from scratch. Through the R2B (Ready2Brand) programme, private label products start from 50 units, startup packages start from RM3,000 and ready formulas can be prepared for launch in 1–2 weeks. Production runs in the group company licensed for the category: Dr Orizi for cosmetics and personal care, D&O and Nutrizens for functional food.
Who private label is for
- A first-time founder who wants their own skincare, beauty or wellness brand without funding R&D
- An online seller on Shopee, Lazada or TikTok Shop who wants a product with their own name on it
- A salon, clinic, pharmacy or retailer adding a house brand next to the brands it already sells
- An established brand testing a new category before committing to a custom formula
Private label OEM manufacturing: how it works
In private label manufacturing the product already exists. The manufacturer has developed, tested and produced the formula before; you decide which product to sell, what it is called and how it looks. That is why it is faster and cheaper than developing a formula: the expensive, uncertain part is already done.
- Choose the product. Pick from ready formulas in your category, or browse the Ready Formulas catalogue.
- Try the sample. Existing formulas are sampled in days, because they are already made.
- Brand it. Name, label artwork and packaging. The label is checked against Malaysian labelling rules.
- Notify or register. The regulatory team prepares the notification for your category under your company.
- Produce. Your batch is filled, labelled and packed in the licensed facility for that category.
- Launch. Delivery with batch documents. Repeat orders run on the same records.
Private label vs white label vs ODM vs OEM
All four put your brand on a manufactured product. What changes is whose formula it is and how much of it you can change.
| Model | Whose formula | What you change | Minimum order | Time to launch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private label | Our proven formula, unchanged | Brand, label, packaging | From 50 units (R2B) | About 1–2 weeks |
| White label | One formula sold to many brands | Label only | Varies | Fast |
| ODM | Our formula, adapted to you | Fragrance, colour, texture, actives | From 500 units | About 1–3 months |
| OEM | Developed for you, or your own | Everything | Quoted after feasibility | About 3–6 months |
Private label is ORIZI Group’s fastest route. Want the formula adjusted? That is ODM. Want your own formula? That is OEM with OEM2YOU. The full side-by-side comparison is on our services.
What you can private label
Ready formulas are available across nine categories. Each category page lists the formats and the facility that produces them.
Medical devices are not offered as private label; they follow a separate MDA route through the group’s medical device manufacturers.
Private label cosmetics in Malaysia
Skincare, makeup, hair and body care are the most common private label products in Malaysia, and they follow one rule set: every cosmetic product must be notified to the NPRA before it is sold, and it must be made by a manufacturer that follows cosmetic good manufacturing practice. ORIZI Group’s cosmetics are produced by Dr Orizi (M) Sdn. Bhd., which appears on NPRA’s public cosmetic manufacturer list, follows ISO 22716 cosmetic GMP and holds JAKIM halal certification.
What this means for your brand: the product can be sold legally, it passes the supplier checks retailers and marketplaces ask for, and halal-certified options are available for Muslim consumers. Certificates for each group company are on our certifications page.
What is included
Starting small? R2B (Ready2Brand) packages these into one startup package from RM3,000 and 50 units.
How to choose a private label manufacturer in Malaysia
Six questions separate a dependable private label partner from a risky one. Ask them of any factory, including us.
When private label is not the right fit
- You need a formula nobody else can sell. Choose ODM to adapt a formula, or custom OEM to own one.
- Your product is a medical device. Devices need MDA registration and a licensed device manufacturer; see medical devices.
- You already have a formula. Then you need OEM manufacturing to your specification, or contract filling if you supply the bulk.
Questions people ask about private label
What is a private label manufacturer?
A private label manufacturer is a factory that makes a finished product from its own proven formula and sells it to other companies to sell under their own brand. The brand owner chooses the product, packaging and label; the manufacturer handles formulation, production and quality control. ORIZI Group works this way in Malaysia across skincare, cosmetics, hair and body care, fragrance, functional food and home care.
How do I find a private label manufacturer in Malaysia?
Start with the category you want to sell, then shortlist factories that are licensed for it: cosmetic manufacturers appear on NPRA’s public manufacturer list, and halal-certified ones on JAKIM’s MYeHALAL portal. Compare the minimum order per product, who will hold the product notification, what documents come with each batch and how quickly you can reorder. Ask for a sample before paying for a production run.
What is the minimum order for private label products in Malaysia?
Minimum orders for private label products in Malaysia commonly start in the hundreds of units. At ORIZI Group, the R2B programme starts from 50 units for selected ready formulas, and catalogue formulas adapted through ODM start from 500 units.
How much does it cost to start a private label brand in Malaysia?
Startup packages through ORIZI Group’s R2B programme start from RM3,000, which can include the product, notification, packaging, labels and branding support. The final figure depends on the product, pack size and quantity. A fuller breakdown is in how much OEM manufacturing costs in Malaysia.
What is the difference between private label and white label?
Private label and white label both put your brand on a manufacturer’s formula; the difference is how much is yours. White label usually means the identical product sold to many brands with only the label changed. Private label gives you your own packaging, branding and product selection, and can move to an adapted formula through ODM when you want something competitors cannot buy.
What is an example of a private label brand?
Pharmacy and supermarket house brands are the classic example: the retailer sells vitamins, skincare or cleaning products under its own name, made by a contract manufacturer. The same model now powers many online skincare and wellness brands, where a founder or content creator launches under their own name using a manufacturer’s proven formula.
Do I need a registered company to sell private label cosmetics in Malaysia?
Yes, to sell. A cosmetic product sold in Malaysia must be notified to the NPRA by a business entity, so a registered company (Sdn. Bhd. or an SSM-registered business) is needed before launch. Sampling and product selection can start before the company is registered.
Can I change the formula later?
Yes. Many brands start with private label to test demand, then move to ODM to adapt the formula, or to custom OEM through OEM2YOU once volume justifies owning a formula. Staying with the same manufacturer keeps batch records and packaging suppliers in one place.
